Herzog Medical Center is Israel’s foremost center for geriatric, respiratory, mental, health and psychotrauma care and research. The Medical Center effectively addresses the growing medical needs of Israel’s aging elderly population through its Division of Geriatrics. This growth in need is mainly propelled by an increase in life expectancy and the arrival of large numbers of new immigrants.
The Division of Geriatrics treats the effects of advancing age and mental instability with the best medical technologies available, combined with expertise and compassion. It is there to help catch the elderly when they fall and elevate them back to living independently with a robust and healthy wellbeing.
The Division of Geriatrics at Herzog Medical Center is comprised of six major divisions for its geriatric care: an Acute Geriatric Care Department, a Physical Rehabilitation Department, a Chronic Respiratory Support Department, a Dialysis Department and a Research Center.

The Department of Acute Geriatric Internal Medicine cares for the elderly who suffer from acute medical conditions such as pneumonia, vascular diseases, infections and respiratory illnesses.
Herzog’s Department of Geriatric Rehabilitation cares for patients recovering from strokes, fractures and surgery. Experienced physiotherapists, occupational and speech therapists help patients regain an optimum level of functioning so that they may return home as quickly as possible.
Herzog’s Long Term Respiratory Care Department provides multi-disciplinary care to patients who are unable to breath on their own.
Herzog’s Department of Complex Nursing caters for patients who suffer from multiple medical conditions and who can no longer be cared for by their families.
Herzog Hospital is one of the major geriatric hospitals in Israel and the only one in the greater Jerusalem area. As such it is the referral center for many patients with multi-organ failure. Over the last few years the hospital has built up a large dialysis service in response to the needs of the local population.
The Clinical Research Center for Brain Sciences at Herzog Medical Center conducts multidisciplinary research focusing on the brain, blending basic and applied clinical sciences with the special patient population available for immediate study.
