Virtual Reality Rehabilitation

With its new Virtual Reality Rehabilitation Center, Herzog Medical Center is helping its child and adult patients regain their independence and mobility after suffering from physical and mental impairment.

At the Center, various virtual technology scenarios help patients train and adapt to their new realities. For example, individuals suffering from upper body incapacity can rehabilitate their balance and mobility playing an interactive driving game where patients have to maneuver a bus around various obstacles on a virtual obstacle course. All their movements and performance are simultaneously recorded and reviewed by their therapist who then targets patient’s continued therapy to strengthen their weak points.

Similar for patients who are suffering from lower body impairments – such as amputees with prosthetic limbs, a virtual reality walking obstacle course allows patients (while suspended with support harnesses) to learn to walk again with confidence learning to maneuver various type of terrain.

With Virtual Reality, patients are offered enhanced mediums to maximize their rehabilitation process saving valuable time and energy so they can get better quicker and return to their normal lives as independent and mobile individuals.
